Overview

Brand new kit featuring the innovative DTX-PADS with (TCS) heads, with Matte Chrome finished hoops for strength, clamped onto a tough HexRack mounting system. The TCS multi-zone pads provide a new level of playability and feel, even to the extent that the snare and tom pads come with their own individual stick response and rebound. You get two 10-inch plus 12-inch toms, three cymbals, a 12-inch snare, hi-hat, and kick.

The kit’s Trigger Module or ‘brain’ comes packed with sounds straight out of Yamaha’s world-beating Motif synthesizer range. Plus you can sample and construct your own material using the AUX IN/SAMPLING IN connector.

While both the DTX-950K and the DTX-900K are true professional’s packages, the 950K offers the HexRack mounting system, and two 12-inch toms in place of the 900K’s single 10-inch ‘floor’ tom.

Texture Cellular Silicone Pads

TCS has the different stick response for the snare and toms to provide the natural feeling when you use the pads in a drum set. This level of playability has been created with drummers who are used to playing on acoustic drums in mind. The sensitivity of it has dramatically increased by employing a floating design, which also helps reduce pad noise. Quiet but strong. The new pads have undergone rigorous testing by Yamaha’s famed roster of drum artists.

Cymbals and Kick Pads

This kit uses the vertically mobile RHH135 hi-hat pad and comes with a natural feel hi-hat pedal. You can control different sounds with the pad and edge areas, and foot splashing is supported. The HS740A hi-hat stand is included. There are two cymbal pads, the 15-inch PCY155 and the 13-inch PCY135, both of which have three zones: pad, edge, and cup. Each zone can produce a different sound. You can choke the cymbal pads by grabbing their edges after you hit them. This kit uses the KP125W kick pad has been updated with a reinforced head, which guarantees stable play even when you are using a double foot pedal.

DTX900 Trigger Module

In addition to a collection of essential Yamaha acoustic drum sounds, the DTX900 also features a broad spectrum of voices taken from the world renowned MOTIF series synthesizers for a total of 1326 voices. Even on a live stage, these subtle yet dynamic voices will provide a compelling presence. The XA (Expanded Articulation) System creates subtly different samples even when you strike the drum with the same strength, which will translate into more natural snare rolls and help you to re-create the feel of a legato ride cymbal or staccato hi-hat. The module features a ton of helpful features such as internal songs whose drum parts you can mute and so play along to (you can also record your own performance), a variety of different clicks, with different accents, and Yamaha’s famous Groove Check and Rhythm Gate timing trainers.

Sounds

Utilizing sound technology from the highly acclaimed Motif XS and DSP effects from Yamaha digital mixers, the DTX900 Drum Trigger Module has the professional sounds that bring your drumming to life. There’s even a stacking feature that lets you play multiple drum voices as you sequentially hit a pad.

You can choose from 1,115 preset voices or (with DIMMs installed) use the SAMPLING function for endless sound expansion.

You can connect the DTX Module to an external sound source or use a microphone and sample your own voice. You can load original voices from USB flash memory and assign them to different pads.

The chain function lets you program drum kits freely in any order that you please. Even during a live performance you can switch to another drum kit in an instant just by hitting a pad.

Effects

Equipped with rich and powerful DSP effects. In addition to reverb and chorus effects that can be used commonly throughout the whole system, there are variation effects that can be used on each drum kit to bring out the perfect sound that you need.

Connectivity – Computer and Beyond

The DTX900 comes equipped with MIDI and USB connectors. You can use the pads to trigger VSTs, or, the other way around, use the high-quality sound of the DTX900 as a high-quality sound source. In conjunction with a DAW (Steinberg Cubase AI 5 is included) you can create a MIDI recording of your own performance, which you can then edit in terms of tempo, timing, tone, etc. The six INDIVIDUAL OUT connectors to send the snare, tom, and other drum sounds to the mixer individually. You can record to a multi-track record easily without using the complicated miking that you would need to record from an acoustic drum set. Also, you can use the DIGITAL OUT (S/P DIF) connector to send digital quality sound from the DTX900 to an external device.
