Product Description
In what really is the best of both worlds, the new Yamaha n8 and n12 mixers provide the thing that everyone wants: Full Cubase power with musician-orientated, analog-style, hands-on control.
The n8 and n12 may not be controllers in the motorized fader / total recall sense of the word, but they are tailor-made front-ends for Cubase. In addition to offering ultra high quality, Class A mic pres, EQ, and built in DSP, and of course full transport controls to run Cubase, the n Series uses FireWire connectivity to give you genuine multi-channel connectivity with audio tracks on your DAW. 12 in 12 out on the n8, and 16 in 16 out on the n12.
What this means is that while you can still record in Cubase (and of course process, and mix) the n Series goes on to give you individual track control for genuine analog-style mixing using faders, individual channel EQ and pan, groups, and much more. Whether or not you eventually want to mix in the box, having this genuinely integrated facility at such an incredibly low price point is revolutionary.
Although the n8 and n12 can work perfectly well with any DAW they really are tailor-made for Cubase (as if the point needs to be reinforced, there's even a 'Cubase Ready' light on the control panel that comes on once Cubase is installed and ready to roll! ) The latest Cubase AI comes bundled, and if you want to upgrade to Cubase 4 or Studio 4 you can do so at extremely tempting prices nowadays.
This type of 'analog/digital' working environment is extremely musician-friendly. If you run Cubase already and still tend to bemoan the lack of physical controls this is definitely the best answer at the moment unless you want to mortgage your house and purchase a full-blown mixer / control surface like the Euphonix 5-MC.
The n Series is full of compelling solutions for today's DAW user: 'sweet-spot' morphing compressor on all channels (and it really does seem to find just the right sound between its standard three or four algorithms that you can sweep between - and if you want more, you can even download and install new ones from Yamahasynth.com), superb 3-band EQ with sweepable mid, Yamaha REV X reverb (an absolute life-saver when the singer wants some decent reverb in the headphones to record to), and much more.
A video has been produced showing the n8 in action, and if you need further instruction (though this is absolutely NOT a difficult piece of equipment to operate) the folks here at KEYFAX actually use the products and are here to help any way we can.
